You can ride a motorcycle or scooter in Sri Lanka using an International Driving Permit (IDP). Bring both your original driving license and IDP – both must be presented together at police checkpoints.
The Kandy to Ella route via Nuwara Eliya is generally safe and very popular with riders. The road is well-paved but has many sharp bends and steep gradients. Allow extra time (4-5 hours) and avoid this route in heavy rain.
